Sacramento Fire Department crews raced to the city’s Railyards district Thursday evening after getting a report of a person stuck in the historic landmark water tower tank.
KCRA News reported that a first responder said over emergency radio channels, "We have an 80-foot, above-ground water tower, and there's potentially a person in there."
After arriving at the scene, fire crews made their way up to the water tower's 100,000-gallon capacity cylindrical tank that is 72 feet above the ground to check inside an open hatch located on the structure's northwest-facing side.
When the firefighter looked inside, all he saw was a couple of owls.
Hoo knew?
Not wanting to waste an opportunity to get in some training, first responders discussed how they'd handle a rescue if someone were to be stuck inside that tower.
"We were just sitting here talking about if we did have to actually hoist someone out of there what that would look like," a first responder told KCRA News. "So it is a good discussion to be having."
Never pass up an opportunity to learn.
